Takeshita Demons: The Filth-Licker by Cristy Burne

Thank you Seth for lending me this one, which I'm reading at the moment.

It's the second in the Takeshita Demons series. I'm told Mr Patrick read the first one in Year 4.
The genre is "horror", but with an unusual flavour, because the demons in these books, as well as the hero are Japanese. Here's the author, Cristy Burne, talking about the first book:

(While you're at it, have a look at Cristy Burne's blog.)

I'm not a great fan of horror stories or ghost stories (they either frighten me, which I don't like, or they don't frighten me, which takes away the point of the story). But I do like the Japanese element in these books. The weirdness of the demons reminds me of a great Japanese cartoon film you might know, Spirited Away, which is set in a giant spirit bath-house. You know the kind of place:

  1. I hope you are enjoying it Mr Gregg! Mr Patrick read the first Takeshita Demons to our class in Year 5. It is a really tempting book, when you start reading it you can not even put the book down.
