I'm loving this book. In this book a family cat leaves but has three kittens just before she does and Mathew's dad finds two and drowns them but one survived. About two weeks later Mathew finds the last kitten, they kept him and named him Montezuma. That was his first life gone. I can't tell you any more or it would spoil the ending for you.
